The practice was founded by the late Robert Mason and has provided a professional and enthusiastic legal service to the people of KwaZulu-Natal from its Pietermaritzburg base. Whilst the name of the practice has from time to time been subjected to certain additions, the name ‘Mason’ has always been its main feature. In keeping with modern trends, it is thus fitting that our present decision to abbreviate the name of the practice should continue to honour the founder of the practice. All of the current directors served articles with the practice. In fact, Graham Shelwell shares a fairly unique distinction in legal circles, in that he was appointed as partner on the day he qualified as an attorney. He has repaid the faith shown in him, by the then partners in the practice, by remaining with the practice ever since that appointment.
