Charl started his career in 1980 as a detective in the SAPS fraud and theft unit, 1982-83 Charl served as a public prosecutor for all child cases in Welcom, 1984-85 Charl served as district public prosecutor for all criminal cases and was promoted to senior public prosecutor in the following years. In 1988 Charl received the honour of serving as a magistrate three different fields, criminal court, Civil court and Children’s court and at a stage was advisor to the minister of justice. 1993-95 Charl served as an advocate in Pretoria and Kwazulu Natal, 1996 to the present has a successful practice in Hatfield, Pretoria.
